Right Bank Bordeaux

1975 – Château l'Evangile, Red (0,75 L.)
Pomerol, Bordeaux, France

One of the finest mature Pomerols in my cellar is the 1975 L'Evangile, a wine I have drunk three times this year at the time of writing. Offering up a complex and compelling bouquet of plums, sweet berries, vine smoke, baking spices, fruitcake and truffles, it's full-bodied, satiny and sensual, with melted tannins, ripe acids and a seamless, enveloping profile, concluding with a sapid finish. While it is fully mature today, it appears to be in no danger of imminent decline. Drink 1995-2035.

2017 – Château Pavie Macquin, Red (1,50 L.)
Saint-Emilion Grand Cru, Clasée, Bordeaux, France

Nicolas Thienpont picks his grapes later than most to gain perfect ripeness. Made from a blend of 80% Merlot, 18% Cabernet Franc and 2% Cabernet Sauvignon this is a very glossy, bright and fresh wine with ripe almost compoted fruit, raspberry and strawberry flavours, sweet and fleshy, with good structure. A, dynamic wine full of balance and beauty.
